Like Sew has acquired Websites for Quilters

Websites For Quilters has been acquired by Like Sew, effective September 1st 2015.

Websites For Quilters is pursuing an opportunity in a different industry

The Websites For Quilters team is moving on to pursue opportunities in new industries. Because these opportunities will take their full capacity, they will no longer be able to support their current quilting customers. As a result, they felt it would be in their clients’ best interest to be served by another expert in the quilting industry: Like Sew.

We are honored that of the many potential partners evaluated, Websites For Quilters felt that Like Sew would be in the best position to address their clients’ needs in the present as well as in the future. Websites For Quilters will be working very closely with Like Sew during the transition to ensure that all of their clients are well taken care of. Clients with sites currently in development will be taken care of.

Questions & Answers

Q:
Like Sew just acquired JMM. Why did they now also acquire Websites For Quilters?

A:
Websites For Quilters was presented with an excellent opportunity in a different industry that will be requiring all of their time and attention. Prior to making the transition, they wanted to make sure that their clients would be well taken care of. After careful consideration, Websites For Quilters approached Like Sew to take care of their clients’ ongoing website needs.

Q:
Does this mean I have to use Like Sew for my website?

A:

In the long run, it doesn’t make sense for Like Sew to maintain 2 separate website platforms. Each time a new web technology emerges, it would have to be developed in both systems. Because of this, the Websites For Quilters Dash system will eventually be shut down. The plan is to keep it running for a year while transitions are made. Websites For Quilters clients will be asked to make the transition at different times during the year since it can’t all be done at once. Like Sew will discuss your situation individually with you. It is important to attend the webinar and then schedule a one-on-one appointment to learn more about your options.

Naturally, you can choose instead to use an alternative website provider for your ongoing website needs. Like Sew is very competitively priced, and has direct access to your database for migration purposes. Like Sew also specializes in the quilting & sewing industry with ties to major vendors and manufacturers.

Q:
When will my site be transitioned?

A:
All sites are expected to be transitioned within a year. Older sites and sites with less content will be contacted first about making the transition. Clients with special circumstances can advance or postpone their transition time. Please attend the webinar mentioned above for more information.

Q:
Will my site be responsive (i.e. mobile friendly)?

A:
All sites moved to the Like Sew platform will be mobile-friendly, responsive websites. Google made a change in April of this year that rewards responsive websites. Industry observers estimate that responsive websites are out-performing their counterparts by approximately 10%. If your current website is not a responsive website, this will be a great opportunity to potentially increase its effectiveness.

Q:
Will I be able to keep my current design?

A:
You will be able to keep your current design if you choose. It will require manual effort on the part of Like Sew to transfer your current design to the Like Sew system. An appropriate fee will be charged to accomplish this. For no additional charge, you will have the option of using a Like Sew website template. Alternatively, for a standard fee, you can have a new custom website design created for you. See below for more details.

Q:
Will my monthly costs stay the same?

A:
Your costs will stay largely the same. In nearly every case, any potential change to your monthly costs won’t be more than a few dollars. Some people will see a decrease in costs.

Q:
What's cool about the Like Sew system?

A:
For those of you who are retailers, Like Sew offers a fantastic, seamless website and point-of-sale system that we invite you to consider. For everyone, Like Sew provides many cool features for the quilting and sewing industry similar to Websites For Quilters (though details vary). Like Sew and Websites For Quilters have been the two leading providers of websites in the quilting and sewing industry both in features and number of clients. The competition between the two has pushed both to improve in many important and creative ways. The entire industry has benefited as a result.

Q:
Will I lose anything with the transfer to the Like Sew system?

A:
There are 3 key features that many Websites For Quilters clients have available in the Dash system that are currently not available in the Like Sew system: 1) Fabric search by selecting a color, 2) real-time UPS and USPS integration, 3) enhanced search capabilities. Each of these features is scheduled for completion by the end of this year in the Like Sew system. If your current website relies upon these features, you will not be asked to make the transition before they are finished in the Like Sew system. For anyone who currently does not have these features, you will automatically have them made available to you once they are ready. There may be other differences depending on your particular situation.

Q:
How much will it cost to make the transition?

A:

Because of the work it will take to move websites on the Dash system to the Like Sew website platform, a reasonable fee needs to be charged. Normally, for a new website, Like Sew charges $1,499. You can see normal pricing on their website. Transition pricing will be a little different:

$499 – commit by September 30, 2015
$799 – commit by October 31, 2015
$999 – after November 1, 2015
$1499 – after April 1, 2016

Once a commitment is made, Like Sew will work with you to schedule your transition date. There are a limited number of transitions that can be completed each month. These spots will be filled on a first-come first-served basis.

Additional options you may consider:

+ $299 – keep your current design
+ $999 – do a custom website design
+ $499 – add the Like Sew Point-of-Sale

Q:
Will my website and information be transferred for me?

A:
The short answer is: Yes. We will develop software to automatically copy over products, customers, web pages, and so on. We will move your website design if this option is chosen. There will be some specialized types of content or data in certain cases that may not be able to be easily moved.

Q:
My website integrates with JMM for my point of sale system. What’s going to happen?

A:
Since Like Sew has also recently acquired JMM, you would be encouraged to consider the option of using the integrated Like Sew point-of-sale and website system. The Like Sew website system does not integrate directly with TRS software from JMM.

Q:
What if I like my website as it is and don’t want to change?

A:
You can continue to use your Websites For Quilters website for a time. In most cases, you will be able to keep using it for a year or close to a year. At that time, the servers will be turned off. Naturally, you can utilize the services of another website provider. Like Sew is very competitively priced and brings the significant added advantage of having specialized in the Quilting and Sewing industry.

Q:
Will there be future upgrades to the Dash system?

A:
Like Sew does not plan to further upgrade the Dash system.

Q:
What happens to my email and my domain name?

A:
Your email and domain name will still work like normal. Like Sew will provide necessary information and support in these areas during your transition.

Q:
My website is in the process of being built by Websites for Quilters. What will happen to it?

A:
Like Sew will determine the best course of action. If it is near completion, it will likely be completed by the Websites For Quilters Team. If it is in the design process, Like Sew will work with you to complete your website.

Q:
What phone number do I call for support and who will provide the support?

A:
Call the same Websites For Quilters support number. The support team from Websites For Quilters has been retained for a period of time to help with the transition. In addition, the Like Sew support team is being trained to be able to continue to provide support for Websites For Quilters clients.

Q:
What happens to billing? Where should I send payment of invoices?

A:
All outstanding invoices are still payable to Danemco / Websites For Quilters. If you receive a new invoice from Like Sew with Like Sew or Rain Retail* letterhead, that invoice is payable to Like Sew. Automatic billing, such as monthly hosting fees, will transfer to Like Sew automatically around October 1.
*Like Sew's parent company is Rain Retail
